HPV and Cervical Cancer Prevention

Cervical Cancer - the fourth largest cause of cancer in women worldwide. Did you know 98percent of cervical cancer is caused by Virus ? A group of viruses called HPV viruses. Human Papilloma Virus

And there is a Vaccination against this group of Viruses . If taken timely , the Cervical cancer can be prevented - at least 98% of them. It’s an interesting and encouraging to know that the higher income group of countries have been successful in lowering the incidence and mortality caused bycervical cancer.

The two things that have brought down the Cancer of Cervix are - regular Pap Smear examination and HPV vaccination.

Human papillomavirus vaccine for cancer cervix prevention

Cervical cancer is preventable through vaccination. Two available HPV vaccines—Gardasil and Cervarix—offer protection. A total of three doses are needed:

  • First dose: Day 1
  • Second dose: 2 months after the first
  • Third dose: 6 months after the first
  • The vaccine is recommended for both males and females.

    For females, the ideal age for vaccination is between 9 and 12 years. It is generally advised up to the age of 26, but women up to 40–45 years can also receive it to protect against new HPV infections.

HPV vaccination is highly effective in preventing cervical cancer, offering protection in up to 98% of cases.
